Chasing Perfection

Perfection was God’s original design for the world. He created humans in the setting of perfection. This explains why the images on my home Pinterest board consist of decorated and tidy spaces. My innate need for perfection often comes out in obsessive organizing or feeling like the growth of friendships rests in my hands.

Since sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, the condition of the world and mankind is broken. We no longer live forever. Our bodies experience aches and pains. Deception is a tactic of the enemy. Relationships and families are targeted to be destroyed. The lack of perfection in the world seeks to devastate us.

I am reminded in the Bible that perfection is still possible in and because of Jesus Christ.

While temporary things and even our flesh will fade away, Jesus who is perfect took on death and defeated the grave!

Because of Jesus, we can receive eternal salvation that Satan cannot take away.

Because of Jesus, we can embrace and embody Christ’s perfect peace that resides within us.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” -Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

We can trust that the will of God for us is flawless because of His character ordaining our steps.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:2 (NIV)

The spiritual fruit grown in Jesus and given to us is perfect because it comes from God.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” -James 1:17 (NIV)

While on earth, perfection can only be taken hold of spiritually. The effects of it can be revealed through you and me. We should and can seek perfection when Jesus is who we are after.

Dishes and laundry will continuously pile up.

Material things will come and go.

People will fail us.

Jesus is our Hope.

In the arms of Jesus, your spirit will be charged by His Spirit that is one hundred percent flawless.
