I was more than devastated whenever the baby carrot seeds I had lovingly watered for days never showed up. Disappointment took on a whole new meaning in my life last summer. The baby carrot seeds were not just a farming adventure. I planted them symbolically trusting in God to answer a prayer I was hoping in.
Have you ever found yourself feeling doors close right in your face? Why would the things you prayed so earnestly for never sprout?
Almost a year away from the version of myself facing disappointment, I am now thanking the Lord for certain seeds never being able to produce in my life.
I read a Bible verse yesterday that caught the attention of my heart strings.
Matthew 15:13 (CSB) reads, “He replied, ‘Every plant that my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.”
What has been uprooted in your life? I challenge you to consider that it might not have been God who planted that seed in your life. In my circumstance, I recognized that I had been the one trying to plant the seeds of what I wanted to see happen.
If God is not the planter, our seeds are doomed to not grow.
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” -1 John 1:5
God not only is life, but He is LIGHT. Jesus warms up anything He is around. If we want to grow into mature children of Him, then we must spend time in the light of His Presence. Are you depleting yourself and your life by staying inside spiritually? Are you placing yourself in God’s Word and digging into prayer to activate God’s light in your life?
Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV) reminds us, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Don’t forget that your life is built IN CHRIST. It is in Christ that we can be safe and secure. Our lives are kept pruned and cleaned by Jesus daily. He sees us. He knows the rate of our growth. He knows exactly how much of Him we need.
Jesus wants to see you advance and grow, brother or sister. He knows what you are capable of becoming in Him. Are you taking time to root in Him? Are you taking the effort to sit still and let Him speak to you?
We cannot build ourselves up in any way greater than God’s encouragement. As we are living in Christ, the overflow of our lives is going to be thanksgiving.
What are you truly grateful for?
“Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” -Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NLT)
Don’t keep waiting for the “perfect day” or most desired life circumstances to really give your all to forming roots in Christ. Don’t let watching the weather instead of waiting on God determine your steps. He wants to use your life entirely TODAY. You do not have to know everything to give Jesus the soil of your life today.
He is going to produce big and beautiful fruit through you. Do not keep waiting for someday whenever Jesus is calling you to advance His Kingdom today.
He loves you. His heart yearns for you.
