A Newlywed Heart

I woke up thinking of a friend of mine who is getting married soon. She has already been given a few family treasures to add to her future house. Her wedding registry at Target is crafted so detailed holding items she and her fiancé have chosen.

I thought of the resemblance young married couples have to our own walks with God.

Whenever we first give Jesus our everything and become one with Him, we truly rely on the Holy Spirit. Our spiritual libraries are not built up.

At any stage in our walks with God, we do not know how to love others apart from Christ. We just love because we are one with Him.

Whenever my parents first got married, they gladly accepted random pieces of furniture from family friends. Our home has continued to change over the past twenty years. In the last few years of my life, my home has turned into a collection of pieces we have picked for ourselves.

Whenever someone first comes to know Christ, they kind of adopt whatever is given to them by other believers. They feel like they do not have much to show for a life lived with Christ yet.

If you are reading this as a new believer, just know that you already have the most valuable resource you need. Jesus Christ is enough for you. As you walk with Him, mediate on Scripture, pray your heart out, and serve others, you will notice how God changes the surroundings inside of you. Things you once took in with pleasure will no longer seem to be God’s best. The deeper we go with God, the more personal our walks with Him become.

Keep digging deep into Jesus in the most intimate relationship. At the end of our days on earth, I just know that our inward homes of hearts will look drastically different from when we first began our faith journey.

God is adding things to you in this season that are needed for what He is calling you to do.

Jesus is removing things you viewed as treasures because He wants you to value things that will be your own.

We value the things we spend the most time gaining.

Let our pursuit be Jesus and more of Him.

Let our eyes look upward instead of downward.

There is joy in the here and now.

Be hopeful today. God is enough for you. Believe that. He has enabled you for this journey you are walking with Him on.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” -1 John 3:1-6 (NIV)
